Subclavian artery and jugular vein rupture after a blunt thoracic trauma due to a BMX handlebar.

چکیده
A 14-year-old BMX driver suffered a blunt trauma towards the lateral neck (Fig. 1). A computed tomography (CT) angiography revealed a dye stop in the left subclavian artery with collateral blood flow (Fig. 2). Interventional catheterisation revealed a rupture. However, no peripheral pulse deficit was evident, and, therefore, no immediate vascular surgery was performed. www.elsevier.com/locate/ejcts European Journal of Cardio-thoracic Surgery 37 (2010) 235

Fatal delayed rupture of the subclavian artery in a patient with first‐rib fracture caused by blunt trauma
This case highlights the probable association of significantly displaced posterior first-rib fracture and jagged edges of the fracture line following blunt chest trauma with delayed ipsilateral subclavian artery rupture. Early angiography and first-rib repair should promptly be considered under such circumstances.

Injury of the subclavian artery following trauma is an uncommon finding. Hughes (1958) reported 304 vascular injuries in Korean war casualties but in only three of these was rupture of the subclavian artery documented. Chandler and Knapp (1967) reported the operative repair of 126 vascular injuries in 118 casualties in Vietnam. Only one subclavian artery injury was found, an incidence of 0-8 %....

متن کاملTraumatic subclavian arterial rupture: a case report and review of literature
Subclavian artery injuries represent an uncommon complication of blunt chest trauma, this structure being protected by subclavius muscle, the clavicle, the first rib, and the deep cervical fascia as well as the costo-coracoid ligament, a clavi-coraco-axillary fascia portion. Subclavian artery injury appears early after trauma, and arterial rupture may cause life-treatening haemorrages, pseudo-a...

The drain was removed after three days, with a chest radiograph before discharge (eight days) showing regression of the mediastinal haematoma and expansion of the lung. In this case, despite the moderate trauma, both the chest radiography and computed tomography r...
